چکیده

1. Introduction For many applications in chromatography and separation, porous materials with a structure-in-structure fashion are desirable. For such applications, silica monoliths were synthesized which have a trimodal, hierarchical pore structure [1]. It consists of three different interconnected pore domains with pore diameters (measured by Hg-porosimetry) in the range of a few microns (macropores), 18 nm and about 2-3 nm (mesopores and micropores). In this study, we investigated transverse relaxation times (T 2) and self-diffusion of methanol, benzene and water (loadings: 25%, 50%, 90-100% pore filling) in two silica monoliths, which differ mainly in the diameter of their macropores (JHS-002-02 d JHS =3 μm; CL-14, d CL =24 μm).

Transport Properties of Catalyst Supports Derived from a Catalytic Test Reaction

1. Introduction Porous solids with bimodal pore structures are widely used as catalyst supports. Examples are formed bodies, such as tablets, beads, extrudates, and monoliths, of molecular sieves, silica and alumina. The formed bodies are prepared usually by compacting fine micro-or mesoporous particles [1]. As a result, macropores are formed between the agglomerated particles. Recently, cataly...

Diffusion in Hierarchical Pore Systems

1. Introduction With the advent of ordered mesoporous materials with hierarchically organized pore structures, many fundamental questions concerning the behaviour of confined fluids can now be addressed experimentally. Since they are promising materials for practical applications in catalysis, separation and adsorption, knowlegde of diffusion properties of such structures is of quintessential i...

Percolation transition in the porous structure of latex-templated silica monoliths

Porous sol-gel silica monoliths are prepared using PMMA nanoparticles, 60 nm in diameter, as sacrificial templates. The pore-structure of the calcined pellets is investigated through nitrogen adsorption to assess the evolution of the porosity when varying the amount of porogen. The latex templated monoliths present a well defined spherical extrinsic porosity and an intrinsic microporosity due t...

Mesoporous monoliths of inverse bicontinuous cubic phases of block copolymer bilayers.

Solution self-assembly of block copolymers into inverse bicontinuous cubic mesophases is a promising new approach for creating porous polymer films and monoliths with highly organized bicontinuous mesoporous networks. Here we report the direct self-assembly of block copolymers with branched hydrophilic blocks into large monoliths consisting of the inverse bicontinuous cubic structures of the bl...

Synthesis and morphological characterization of phenyl-modified macroporous–mesoporous hybrid silica monoliths

Compared with pure silica-based or organic-polymer monoliths, hybrid organic-silica monoliths offer the combined advantages of mechanically strong stationary phases, simpler preparation protocols, resistance to swelling and shrinking in many solvents and better pH stability. Comprehensive data on the systematic characterization of the pore space morphology of hybrid organic-silica monoliths and...
